Laporta Rules Out Messi Return: "An Unrealistic Expectation" as Barcelona Builds for the Future

Barcelona President Joan Laporta recently addressed the possibility of club legend Lionel Messi returning to the team, stating clearly that such a move is not part of the club's current vision.

Laporta stated that Messi's return is an "unrealistic expectation," noting that the player is currently under contract with Inter Miami and is 38 years old. He emphasized that the club is focused on a plan that builds for the present and the future. The President stressed the difficulty of moving forward if the club continuously dwells on the past.

Regarding the upcoming presidential election and his rival Victor Font, Laporta declined to comment on individual candidates, but issued a warning against those who view Barcelona merely as a business or a limited company. He implied that if anyone felt targeted by his remarks about "smart alecs," there must be a reason for it. He added that he was not surprised to see former manager Xavi feature in Font's team, as their association is not new.

Laporta also addressed the much-anticipated return to Camp Nou, describing it as a "historic moment" and vital for securing home advantage. He confirmed the club is seeking a Class 1C permit to allow an initial capacity of 60,000 spectators by the end of the year. While acknowledging that ticket prices are currently higher than usual due to the historic nature of the moment, he assured that prices will decrease as the stadium capacity gradually increases.
