The English Football League (EFL) has confirmed that Sheffield Wednesday has been docked an additional six points due to repeated failures in paying staff salaries and related dues. This latest sanction immediately drops the club's league tally to -10 points, cementing their place at the bottom of the Championship table.
The new penalty stems from the club's failure to pay player wages and various payments to staff and HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) in March, May, and June of this year. This comes after the club was already docked 12 points in October for being placed into administration by former owner Dejphon Chansiri, who has been banned from serving as an owner or director of any FA-affiliated club for three years.
In a statement, the FA confirmed the immediate six-point deduction for multiple breaches of payment obligation rules. The FA also noted that while an independent club financial reporting unit is still reviewing pre-administration breaches in the 2025-26 season, the league will not seek any further point deductions at this time.
Sheffield Wednesday continues to struggle on the pitch, having secured their only victory of the season against Portsmouth on September 20th. The club is currently on a four-match losing streak, including a painful 0-3 defeat to rivals Sheffield United last month.
