A first-ever meeting at the AFCON pitting Benin against DR Congo is on the cards this Tuesday. The two nations clash in Group D, which also has Senegal and Botswana. Two-time AFCON champions DR Congo will be among nations bidding to rise to the apex of African football. They have what on paper looks like an easy start, their third match against Benin. In the last two, DR Congo registered a win and a draw. Having finished fourth in the last edition, the Leopards will be bidding for a deeper run. Their form ahead of this competition works well in their favor, after winning four of the last five matches. Sebastien Desabre’s last defeat was in the World Cup qualifiers, at home to Senegal. That was their third loss in 15 matches.

Democratic Rep Congo VS Benin A pre - match comparison between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Benin shows that the home team has a more stable recent form. Most of their wins in the last 10 games highlight high morale. In contrast, the away team's record has been quite volatile, which may pose a challenge to their confidence. In historical confrontations, the home team holds an advantage, remaining undefeated in the last two meetings, which boosts their psychological edge. However, the absence of left - back Dito creates defensive concerns and adds pressure to execution. On the other hand, although the away team is at a disadvantage in past match - ups, they have a complete lineup with no injuries or suspensions, which is beneficial for tactical implementation and morale maintenance. Overall, the home team is on the rise but needs to address lineup issues, while the away team must overcome psychological barriers and leverage their intact lineup to seek a breakthrough. Recomme

The Leopards reached the semi-finals of this tournament two years ago and have been in solid form as of late, beating Nigeria and Cameroon to reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup inter-confederation qualifying play-offs. With the likes of Arthur Masuaku, Axel Tuanzebe and Aaron Wan-Bissaka at the back, they have a very solid defensive base and in Noah Sadiki and Ngalayel Mukau they have real quality in midfield too. The absence of Yoane Wissa is a miss but they will be very difficult to break down and should be able to do enough going forwards to get the better of this Benin side. The Che

    • Nigeria will have to improve on their recent form if they want to be a real challenger in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as they open their tournament against underdogs Tanzania. Nigeria qualified by topping Group D of the AFCON qualifiers with an impressive record (W3, D2, L1). They had the best defensive record of conceding just three goals, and with only 12 goals in their six matches, Nigeria havent enticed fans. The Super Eagles will be worried about their recent form, having failed to win any of their last three games during regular time (D1, L2). Those may have reduced the expectations, but Nigeria can set the ball rolling with a win here.

    • Vitoria Guimaraes will play host to Sporting CP in the Liga Portugal on 23 December 2025, Tuesday. Vitoria Guimaraes are unbeaten in four of their last five league matches, with two wins and two draws in that run. At home, they recently held Gil Vicente to a goalless draw and produced a dominant 4-0 win over AVS. Defensively, they have conceded just once across their last three league games. However, the loss to Benfica highlighted the gap when facing elite opposition. That pattern matters here.
