After winning Group B, Egypt now aim to book their place in the 2025 AFCON with a triumph over Benin. As Egypt boss Hossam Hassan can count on star players for Mondays clash, we predict a 2-0 home win. The Pharaohs have been impressive at the back at the showpiece tournament in Morocco, conceding only 0.33 goals per game. On the other hand, with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush up front, the Egyptians are surely capable of finding the net in the last 16 showdown. Midfielder Mohanad Lasheen is sidelined with injury, but the Pyramids man should not be sorely missed. Benin, meanwhile, are hit by Abdoul Mouminis suspension. With Gernot Rohrs men scoring only one goal in total at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations so far, away win should not be considered. Adding to their woes, Neftci Baku midfielder Sessi DAlmeida misses the Egypt game with injury. Their overall expected goals of 0.86 is not giving fans a reason for optimism.

This fixture strongly favours Egypt, both on history and current form. The Pharaohs have met Benin only four times, remaining unbeaten in all encounters and winning three of them. After a draw in their first official meeting back in July 2004, Egypt went on to claim victory in the next three clashes. This will be the first meeting between the sides since January 2010, which also came at the Africa Cup of Nations, another reminder of Egypts long-standing dominance in this matchup.

Egypt, the most decorated nation in African football history, resume their pursuit of continental dominance as they face an improving Benin side in the Round of 16 of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations. From a tactical and personnel standpoint, Egypt possess a clear edge. Their attacking trident of Mohamed Salah, Omar Marmoush and Mahmoud Trezeguet ranks among the most dangerous units at the tournament, combining elite individual quality with pace, movement and end-product. Behind them, Egypts defensive structure has once again proven compact and disciplined, a hallmark of their recent AFCON success and a key reason they remain one of the most efficient teams on the continent. Benin deserve credit for their progress over the past year, particularly in terms of organisation and competitiveness. However, results at the sharp end of qualification and tournament football have exposed their ceiling. A difficult end to their World Cup qualifying campaign, followed by a 30 defeat to Senegal in the
