    Manchester United Official Announcement

Manchester United are pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Carrick as interim head coach of the men’s first team, with his tenure running until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Carrick made 464 appearances for the club, winning five Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two League Cups, one UEFA Champions League, one UEFA Europa League, and one FIFA Club World Cup.

After retiring in 2018, he joined the first-team coaching staff and worked under both José Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjær. Following Solskjær’s departure, Carrick took charge as interim head coach and led the team to excellent results.

The former England international has been head coach of Middlesbrough since October 2022, a role he held for two and a half years.

    Head coach Michael Carrick said:

“It is an honour to take on the responsibility of leading Manchester United.

“I know what it takes to be successful here, and my focus is on helping the players reach the standards expected at this great club. We know this squad is fully capable of doing that.

“I have worked with many of the players before and have followed the team closely in recent years. I have complete belief in their talent, commitment, and ability to succeed here.

“There is still a lot for us to play for this season, and we are ready to stand united and deliver the performances that our loyal supporters deserve.”

Manchester United Football Director Wilcox said:

“Michael is an outstanding coach who understands exactly what it takes to win matches at Manchester United.

“He is ready to lead this talented and determined group of players through the remainder of the season, as we continue working towards sustained success for the club.”

Carrick will be supported by Holland, Woodgate, Binnion, Evans, and Mawson.

The club would like to extend its sincere thanks to Fletcher for leading the team over the past week. Fletcher will continue in his role as U18 head coach, playing a vital part in developing players capable of contributing to the Manchester United first team.
