During the 28th round of the Segunda División match between Sporting Gijón and Leganés, a tragic incident occurred. An elderly fan in the stands suffered a sudden heart attack and, despite emergency treatment, sadly passed away. As a result, the match was suspended.

According to the latest decision from the league, the unfinished match will resume at 3:00 a.m. (Beijing time) on March 3, continuing from the moment it was stopped. At the time of suspension, the score was 0–0, with possession in the hands of the visiting team’s goalkeeper.

The incident happened just 3 minutes and 17 seconds after kickoff. An 82-year-old loyal Sporting Gijón supporter suffered a sudden myocardial infarction in the stands. The elderly fan had held a season ticket for 40 years and had witnessed countless highs and lows of the club. Although the on-site medical team immediately performed emergency CPR for 45 minutes, they were ultimately unable to save him, and he sadly passed away inside the stadium.
