Earlier this week, Spanish media outlet Diario de Sevilla reported that Sevilla’s head of security, Antonio Bernal, had been arrested for allegedly stealing items from a shopping mall. According to a report today by Mundo Deportivo, Antonio Bernal has now been dismissed by Sevilla FC.
It is reported that Bernal, a former police officer, took two pieces of clothing and a pair of sunglasses worth more than €800 from the mall and left without paying. He has since been arrested and taken into custody. Before the court verdict is delivered, Sevilla believe the club’s image has already been seriously damaged, and both parties have therefore agreed to terminate his contract.
According to Mundo Deportivo’s analysis of Spanish criminal law, the theft involves an amount exceeding €400, which could carry a maximum sentence of up to 18 months in prison.
