According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus are planning to replace their goalkeeper. Although Liverpool have already renewed the contract of Alisson Becker, Juventus have not given up their pursuit. At the same time, FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa has been listed as an alternative option, with a valuation similar to Marco Carnesecchi, around €45–50 million. The club is currently evaluating its transfer plans.
The report states that a new goalkeeper has already begun. Although it is still early in the year, Juventus’ transfer situation continues to evolve, with new targets constantly emerging. One thing is certain: the club has decided to make a change in the goalkeeper position and is seeking a reliable new option.
To this end, the management led by CEO Damien Comolli is working intensively to strengthen the squad, aiming to bring in higher-quality players for Luciano Spalletti’s starting lineup. In this transfer race, leading candidates and backup options are constantly shifting, with both experienced goalkeepers and promising talents under consideration.
In any case, Juventus will not take unnecessary risks in the market. They will only target proven players who can make an immediate impact. Inter Milan appear to be fully committed to signing Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, while Juventus’ targets include Alisson, Carnesecchi of Atalanta, and the newly emerged Diogo Costa. Regardless of the final choice, significant investment will be required.
It has been a year and a half since Juventus began their squad overhaul in the summer of 2024. After reshaping other key positions, the club’s hierarchy has identified signing a top-level goalkeeper as a major priority. In terms of pure experience and ability, Alisson best matches the club’s expectations. Although he recently extended his contract, Juventus’ interest has not faded, even if a deal currently appears unlikely.
Liverpool have activated the annual extension clause in his contract, meaning they will not allow him to leave on a free transfer. However, the Brazilian goalkeeper’s personal stance remains unclear. The former AS Roma player wants clarity from the club regarding his role for next season.
At present, Giorgi Mamardashvili’s status at Liverpool is steadily rising. If Alisson is required to rotate with the Georgian goalkeeper—widely seen as the future first choice—and cannot secure a guaranteed starting role, he may consider a transfer, which would not align with his personal plans.
In addition, Alisson hopes to compete in the UEFA Champions League. Currently, both Liverpool and Juventus are still fighting to qualify for the competition. From Juventus’ perspective, the transfer fee for Alisson may not be excessively high, but his wages would be significant. Moreover, pursuing players with expiring contracts this summer could further increase the club’s wage bill. Nevertheless, he remains highly valued by Juventus, and Spalletti had already placed great trust in him during the 2016–17 season at Roma, when Alisson first arrived in Serie A.
Meanwhile, during talks with agent Jorge Mendes—who also represents Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva—Juventus were offered the opportunity to sign Diogo Costa. The Swiss-born Portuguese goalkeeper joined Porto at the age of 11 and has been the club’s first-choice keeper for five seasons. He now believes the time is right to move to a higher-level league.
At 26, Costa commands a high price, and Porto are known for demanding substantial fees in transfers. Juventus understand that signing him would require an investment of around €45–50 million, similar to the cost of Carnesecchi. Evaluations are still ongoing and will depend on the progress of other transfer targets already on the club’s shortlist.
