In today’s FIFA World Cup intercontinental playoff, Iraq—coached by Australian manager Graham Arnold—defeated Bolivia 2–1 to secure qualification for the World Cup finals. After the match, the A-League officially sent its congratulations to Arnold.
The A-League wrote on its official social media:
“Australian football history has been made. Graham Arnold—respect! After guiding Iraq to qualification for the 2026 World Cup, this A-League legend has become the first Australian coach to lead two different national teams to the World Cup. From the A-League to the global stage—brilliant!”
Arnold previously led Australia to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and this year he has guided Iraq to the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
