According to L’Équipe, although the exact timeline for Paul Pogba’s official return remains uncertain, AS Monaco’s risk on this signing is relatively low, as the salary offered to him is not high.
During the recent international break, Pogba featured in a match and played 25 minutes. The good news is that his limited playing time was not due to injury, but rather a pre-arranged “test run” agreed upon with the coaching staff. Even more encouragingly, the 33-year-old midfielder calmly struck from the edge of the box to score a goal. While it was only an unofficial match, the goal meant a great deal to Pogba, who had been sidelined for three and a half months with a calf injury.
However, behind this brief moment of brilliance lies a highly confidential contract. Last June, after a two-year suspension, Pogba unexpectedly joined Monaco, prompting curiosity about how much the club had invested in the former €100 million star.
Sources suggest that the details of Pogba’s contract are strictly confidential. However, based on various reports, the deal appears to be very reasonable for Monaco. His base monthly salary is reportedly under €200,000 before tax—considered modest by Ligue 1 standards. The bulk of his earnings instead comes from substantial performance-related bonuses and appearance incentives. This means Pogba can only earn a high salary if he consistently plays and delivers on the pitch.
This wage level is significantly lower than that of two other new arrivals: Eric Dier, who joined on a free transfer from Bayern Munich (earning €330,000 net per month), and Ansu Fati, who is on loan from Barcelona (with Monaco covering about half of his €250,000 salary).
A source within Monaco revealed: “For Paul, this has never been about money. He turned down more lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia and elsewhere because he wants to prove he still belongs at the highest level.”
The reality, however, is that due to his limited playing time—just 30 minutes over the past eight months—Pogba has barely earned any appearance bonuses. In fact, he does not even feature in Monaco’s top 10 monthly earners list.
