Chelsea suffered a 0–3 defeat to Brighton in this round of the Premier League, marking five consecutive league losses without scoring a single goal. Speaking on Sky Sports, reporter Kaveh Solhekol discussed Rosenior’s future.
He said: “Rosenior is under huge pressure. At the very least, he needs to win the FA Cup and secure qualification for the Europa League. I don’t think it’s very likely that they will qualify for the Champions League. If they fail to do so, it would be the third time in four years under the new ownership that Chelsea have missed out on the Champions League. Given the club’s stature and the level of investment, they have to be there.”
“Chelsea’s hierarchy won’t make ongoing public comments about Rosenior’s future, but in my view, if they fail to secure a Champions League spot and also fail to win the FA Cup — which will be difficult as they would need to beat Manchester City — he will come under immense pressure.”
“Privately, Chelsea will say that if asked, they fully support the head coach, and even if he fails to qualify for the Champions League, he will keep his job. But if you’re on a run of defeats like this and it continues, you’re very likely to lose your job.”
