Tickets for some matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico have already gone on sale. According to the Daily Mail, ticket sales for matches involving one of the host nations, the United States, have been underwhelming.
The U.S. team is set to face Paraguay on June 12 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, but current ticket sales for this match are significantly lagging behind other games at the same venue.
An internal document provided to the organizing committee shows that as of April 10, only around 40,900 tickets had been sold for the United States vs. Paraguay match. In comparison, the Iran vs. New Zealand match at the same stadium three days later had already sold approximately 50,700 tickets—nearly 10,000 more.
Additionally, the Bosnia and Herzegovina vs. Switzerland match has sold around 47,000 tickets, while Iran vs. Belgium has also surpassed the 50,000 mark, both generating greater interest than the U.S. team’s opening game.
It is worth noting that SoFi Stadium has a capacity of 69,650. It remains unclear whether the ticket sales figures include luxury suites and other non-public sales channels. However, ticket sales for the United States’ final group-stage match at the same venue against Turkey have also failed to reach 40,000.
Ticket pricing is believed to be a key factor affecting sales. Current prices show Category 1 tickets as high as $2,730, Category 2 at $1,940, and even the most widely available Category 3 tickets priced at $1,120. Such high prices have sparked dissatisfaction among fans, with some ticket holders reselling their tickets below face value on official resale platforms.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino previously stated that a total of around 6.7 million tickets would be made available for this World Cup, with approximately 5 million already sold. A portion of tickets is expected to be held back for continued sales closer to the tournament.
Aside from ticket sales, the U.S. team’s recent form has also been less than ideal, having suffered consecutive defeats to Belgium and Portugal in matches held in Atlanta.
