In the second leg of a UEFA Champions League semi-final, Arsenal defeated Atlético Madrid 1–0 at home, advancing to the final with a 2–1 aggregate score.

Arsenal have been in outstanding form in this season’s Champions League. They topped their group with eight wins out of eight in the league phase, and then went on to eliminate Bayer Leverkusen, Sporting CP, and Atlético Madrid in the knockout rounds.

Reaching the final this season also ends Arsenal’s 20-year wait for a Champions League final appearance. Their previous—and only—final came in the 2005/06 season, when they were beaten 2–1 by Barcelona and finished as runners-up.
