No Public Viewing Zone in Paris for PSG-Arsenal UCL Final Amid Security Concerns

No Public Viewing Zone in Paris for PSG-Arsenal UCL Final Amid Security Concerns

According to Le Parisien, no public fan zone will be set up in Paris for the Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal on May 30.

The Socialist mayor of Paris had initially hoped to create a public viewing area on the very night PSG secured their place in the final. However, the French Interior Minister quickly raised concerns. The issue stems from the large number of major events already scheduled for the same day: a concert at Stade de France, a rap performance at Paris La Défense Arena, alongside the French Open tennis tournament and a rugby event at the national stadium.

Paris mayor Grégoire soon acknowledged the reality of the situation. Speaking on Monday morning, he stated: “For me, the safety of Parisians and visitors comes first. We have to admit that with so many major events taking place on the same day, it is impossible to properly coordinate security resources.”

Sources close to the authorities confirmed that, after discussions, all parties reached a unified and responsible decision: there will be no public fan zone in Paris for the Champions League final.

The meeting also addressed future arrangements. The mayor still expressed regret over the concentration of commercial events on the same day. Before the meeting, he said: “My only reservation — and something I hope will be taken into consideration in the future — is that too many commercial events are being scheduled simultaneously, making it impossible to provide free public fan zones.”

He hopes similar scheduling conflicts can be avoided in the future so residents can once again enjoy public viewing gatherings for major matches.

According to sources familiar with the discussions, officials also considered the possibility of setting up public leisure viewing areas for suitable future events. If the Champions League final returns to the city again in 2027, such plans may potentially be implemented.
