Florentino Pérez Slams ABC and Relevo While Defending His Legacy at Real Madrid

Florentino Pérez Slams ABC and Relevo While Defending His Legacy at Real Madrid

Florentino Pérez held a press conference, and the following are the key remarks from the event.

    Florentino Pérez – Opening Statement

    “I Will Not Resign”

    Florentino said:

“Thank you all for being here. Unfortunately for some people, I am not going to resign. I will call elections. Right now, an absurd situation has been created against Real Madrid and against me personally. A team cannot win forever, but we cannot accept what is happening. Some people are taking advantage of this moment to attack me. They ask, ‘Where is Florentino?’ If I don’t speak publicly, they say I’m ill, even that I have terminal cancer.”

“I also want to tell everyone who cares about me that I am still the club president, and I am still running my company, which generates €50 billion in annual revenue. My health is excellent. If I really had cancer, I’d be in an oncology center, and the whole world would know about it. But the rumor has spiraled out of control.”

Florentino then held up an article discussing Real Madrid’s “crisis” and directly questioned an ABC journalist:

“How can you write something like this?”

    He continued:

“I am the person who wants to win every title the most. During my presidency, the football team has won 37 trophies and the basketball team 29. I want to address those who have been creating this atmosphere behind the scenes. Anyone who wants to run for president is welcome to step forward. I will also run in these elections to defend the interests of the club members. They do not intimidate me — they motivate me even more.”

“Certain forces have always wanted to control Real Madrid, but they failed. At Real Madrid, the people in charge are not journalists or the people around them. The members believe in me, not in them. Some journalists think they are very important and believe they can influence the club’s decisions, but that is not true. The members are in charge here. Don’t play these little games. If someone wants to run, then run. But don’t hide behind claims that I’m tired. Just because we didn’t win La Liga or the Champions League this year doesn’t mean I have to accept this narrative. They say Real Madrid is in chaos, but Real Madrid is still the most prestigious club in the world.”

    On the Negreira Case

    Florentino stated:

“The Negreira case is a case of sporting corruption, and it has not been resolved yet. Some referees from that era are still officiating today. We will submit documentation to UEFA so this situation can finally end.”

“Three years ago, we discovered the Negreira case. It is the biggest scandal in football history. Payments were made continuously for 20 years, and even in the third decade, the same referees were still officiating. We will submit important evidence to UEFA and hope they address this issue properly for the good of world football.”

    He later added:

“This is the biggest corruption case in football history. We are preparing a 500-page report that we will send to UEFA after the season ends. I have already spoken with them. There has never been anything like this in the history of world football.”

On His Presidency and Real Madrid’s Status

    Florentino said:

“This is the most decorated club in world history. According to Forbes, Real Madrid is the world’s most valuable club and brand. Why do these journalists interfere with the most prestigious club with the most fans in the world? This club belongs to everyone.”

“Some people called me the greatest president in the club’s history — honestly, I’m embarrassed by that. According to Transfermarkt, we have the most valuable squad in football. We have everything.”

Criticism of ABC, Vocento, and Relevo

Florentino heavily criticized Spanish media outlets:

“ABC belongs to Vocento. They created Relevo together with La Liga. That digital newspaper lost €25 million. When La Liga stopped paying them, they went looking for support from Telefónica and Telecinco. Their only objective has been to attack Real Madrid and its president.”

“It saddens me because my father used to read ABC, and years ago he subscribed to it for me. But today I decided to cancel my ABC subscription. My father would thank me for it.”

He later argued with ABC journalist Rubén Cañizares multiple times during the press conference.

“Real Madrid Belongs to the Members”

    Florentino stressed repeatedly:

“I will be the last member to leave this club. Real Madrid belongs to its members.”

“Anyone who wants to run for president should step forward openly and explain where their money comes from.”

He recalled the club’s financial difficulties in 2000:

“In 2000, I personally guaranteed 174 million pesetas so the club could pay salaries. At that time, the club couldn’t even pay the players. I had to use my own assets.”

He also defended the renovation costs of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium:

“People say the stadium renovation started at €600 million and ended at €1.3 billion. That’s false. The €600 million only covered the initial roof project. Later we added the underground pitch system and stadium decoration.”

    On Ultras and Ticket Scalping

    Florentino said:

“The extremist fans will never return. After we removed them, people around the world congratulated me because we expelled violence from Real Madrid.”

“This year we have expelled 1,600 members involved in ticket scalping.”

    On the European Super League

    Florentino stated:

“Regarding the Super League, we already won in the European Court of Justice, and now we are in discussions with UEFA.”

“We want football to be free to watch so children in Africa can watch matches for free, just like the Club World Cup. This is not only for Real Madrid, but for the future of football.”

    On Coaching and Transfers

When asked about future signings or coaches, Florentino refused to discuss sporting matters:

“I will not talk about coaches or players. I came here today to defend Real Madrid’s ownership structure and give the club back to its members.”

When asked about José Mourinho, he replied:

“Now is not the time to talk about that.”

    On Dressing Room Conflicts

Regarding reports of conflict between Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni, Florentino said:

“Players fight every season. Sometimes two players clash, sometimes four. Young players compete. One kicks the other, then the other responds, and the next day they’re friends again.”

“What concerns me most is that this information leaked from inside the club. In my 26 years at Real Madrid, this is the first time I’ve seen something like that.”

    On the Media

Florentino repeatedly accused sections of the Spanish media of orchestrating a campaign against Real Madrid:

“This is an organized campaign by bad journalists against Real Madrid.”

“Journalists think they have power, but they don’t. The members support me.”

“If they want me out, let someone run against me in the elections and beat me democratically.”

    On Fans Booing Players

Florentino criticized sections of the fanbase for booing players:

“If Real Madrid plays badly, fans can boo. But now there are people encouraging others to boo our own players. Those are our players — booing them is like booing your own children.”

“The fans should help the players, not turn the stadium into a Roman coliseum.”

    Final Remarks

Florentino concluded the press conference by saying:

“As long as the members do not want me to leave, Florentino Pérez will not go.”

“If they continue attacking Real Madrid, I will come back here again and speak out in defense of the club.”

“They will have to shoot me to force me out, because I have the support of the Real Madrid members.”
