According to a report by RMC Sport, FIFA has introduced a new service for World Cup fans, allowing them to have their names displayed on the stadium scoreboard for $79.
With just three days to go before the opening match of the 2026 World Cup—where Mexico will face South Africa at 3:00 AM Beijing time on June 12—FIFA announced a new initiative on Monday to "enhance the fan experience," while also giving fans another way to spend their money. The tournament, co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, will allow fans to book a specific time slot to have their names flash across the stadium scoreboard during the matches
FIFA writes on its relevant service page: "Get your name on the stadium scoreboard during the match." This new service launched by the Gianni Infantino-led organization is called "Super Shoutout." The page also reads: "Choose your match and book a slot to ensure your name appears at the right match, at the right time."
FIFA hopes to use this to sell fans a new way to engage, allowing them to showcase their "passion," represent their country, and be a part of the 2026 World Cup. Fans who want their names to appear on the scoreboard will need to pay €68.51, which is approximately $79. The name length is limited to 30 characters and will be subject to certain regulations to prevent potentially chaotic situations.
Previously, FIFA had already drawn criticism from some observers over its ticketing policies and a rule banning fans from bringing reusable water bottles into stadiums—the latter of which was later retracted by FIFA. The implementation of commercial advertisement breaks during each half of the match has also sparked controversy. With the launch of this new service, FIFA will likely face ridicule from critics once again.
Prior to the kickoff of this summer's tournament, FIFA also rolled out other commercial services aimed at "enhancing the fan experience." Fans can pay to have their names featured on the carpet that players step on as they walk from the tunnel onto the pitch. This service, named "Walk of Fans," is priced at $159.90, or approximately €138.66.
In its promotional copy, FIFA writes: "Your name, their final steps. Make your name part of football history by having it on the carpet where players walk out for the World Cup final."
FIFA also added: "This is a unique opportunity to leave your mark on the world's greatest tournament and cherish it forever."
