At the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, France eliminated Morocco 2-0 in the quarter-finals. France did not receive a single yellow card during the match, meaning players such as Bradley Barcola, Manu Koné and Michael Olise, who had already been booked, avoided suspension for the semi-final due to accumulated yellow cards.
There are two yellow card reset points during this World Cup. The first comes after the group stage, when all yellow cards are wiped clean. Players will not be suspended for knockout-stage matches due to a combination of yellow cards from the group stage and the knockout rounds.
The second reset occurs after the quarter-finals and before the semi-finals. From that point onward, players will only miss the semi-final if they accumulate yellow cards during the Round of 32, Round of 16 and quarter-finals. Yellow cards from those three knockout rounds will not carry over and combine with a potential yellow card in the semi-final to cause a suspension for the final.
This means that, unless a player receives a straight red card or a red card in the semi-final, no player will miss the World Cup final due to accumulated yellow-card suspensions.
France received no yellow cards in their Round of 32 match against Sweden. In the Round of 16 clash with Paraguay, three French players were booked, but with no cards shown in the quarter-final against Morocco, France will have a full squad available for the semi-final, with no players suspended due to yellow or red cards.
