Barcelona have suffered a major setback after Roony Bardghji sustained a serious knee injury during training on Monday. The Swedish winger is reported to have suffered another ACL tear and could be sidelined for around six to seven months following surgery. The injury is expected to be formally confirmed by the club, but the initial assessment already represents a significant blow for the young player as he prepares for another long rehabilitation period.

This is the second serious ACL injury of Bardghji’s career. The winger previously suffered a similar injury two years ago while playing for Copenhagen, forcing him to spend approximately 10 months on the sidelines. A second major knee problem at this stage of his career is particularly unfortunate, especially as Bardghji had been hoping to use the upcoming season to establish himself and gain more regular playing time at senior level.

The injury also dramatically changes Barcelona’s plans for the player. The club had been working on a potential loan move that would have allowed Bardghji to play more regularly elsewhere, with manager Hansi Flick indicating that opportunities at Barcelona could be limited this season. The competition for places had become even stronger following the arrival of new attacking options, including Gordon and Adeyemi, making a temporary departure increasingly likely before the injury occurred.

Bardghji had already been left out of Barcelona’s trip to Udine for a scheduled friendly, with the decision intended to avoid unnecessary risks while his future was being discussed. However, despite those precautions, the winger suffered the injury during a training session. The setback means his immediate focus will now shift from finding a new club and securing regular football to rehabilitation, recovery and returning to full fitness after another difficult period on the sidelines.
