Cesc Fabregas has been named Serie A Coach of the Year for the 2025-26 season after guiding Como to one of the most impressive campaigns in the club’s recent history. The former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder earned the recognition at the Gran Gala del Calcio AIC after transforming Como into a genuine force in Italy’s top flight. His side finished fourth in the league, securing a historic first qualification for the Champions League.

Fabregas’ achievement represents the latest step in a remarkable coaching journey that began after he retired as a player in 2023. He initially took charge of Como on an interim basis before becoming the permanent head coach in the summer of 2024. After leading the club to 10th place in their first Serie A season under his management, Fabregas helped Como make a huge leap forward the following year, breaking into the top four and challenging the established hierarchy of Italian football.

A key part of Como’s progress has been Fabregas’ willingness to trust young players and give them an important role within his tactical system. Nico Paz emerged as one of the standout performers last season, making 40 appearances across all competitions and contributing 13 goals and eight assists. Como have also carried their strong momentum into the new campaign, drawing 1-1 away to Udinese before claiming an impressive 2-1 victory over Napoli.

The next challenge will be Como’s historic Champions League campaign, which will see them face PSG, Manchester United, Leipzig and AEK Athens at home, while Barcelona, Real Betis, Feyenoord and Lens await on the road. Fabregas and the club are already strengthening the squad, with Robert Sanchez and Trevoh Chalobah arriving from Chelsea. Rather than resting on last season’s success, Como are aiming to continue their upward trajectory, with a Serie A meeting against Genoa next on the agenda.
