Gabriel Martinelli has officially ended his seven-year spell at Arsenal after completing a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal in a transfer reportedly worth £60 million. The departure brings an end to the Brazilian winger’s journey in North London, where he developed from a promising young talent into an established first-team player and a regular member of the Brazil national team.

The transfer also puts Martinelli at the top of Arsenal’s list of most expensive player sales. His £60 million move surpasses the previous record held by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who joined Liverpool for around £40 million in 2017. Martinelli originally arrived from Brazilian club Ituano in July 2019 and went on to make 278 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 62 goals across all competitions.

During his time with the Gunners, Martinelli collected several major honours and played an important role in the club’s return to the top of English football. He was part of the squad that won the FA Cup in 2020 and the Community Shield in 2023, before contributing to Arsenal’s Premier League title success last season. His departure also continues a reshaping of the club’s options on the left side of attack, following Leandro Trossard’s move to Besiktas.

Martinelli now begins a new chapter in Saudi Arabia with Al-Hilal, joining a squad that includes several familiar names from English football, including Ollie Watkins and Crysencio Summerville. At international level, the 25-year-old has earned 27 caps for Brazil and represented his country at the 2022 and 2026 World Cups. His move marks the conclusion of a significant Arsenal chapter while opening the door to a fresh challenge in the Saudi Pro League.
