Karim Benzema’s departure from Al Hilal has sparked plenty of speculation about his next destination, but a return to European football now appears highly unlikely. The former Real Madrid striker has been lined with Barcelona after becoming available, particularly because the Catalan club recently faced changes in its attacking options. However, there is no indication that Benzema has been offered to Barcelona, while his current plans do not include a move back to Europe.
At 38, Benzema remains one of the most experienced forwards available on the market, having enjoyed an outstanding career at Real Madrid before moving to Saudi Arabia. His availability naturally created interest around his future, but the latest information points towards a decision that is more focused on the final stage of his career. Rather than seeking another challenge in Europe, Benzema is understood to be considering whether to continue playing in the Middle East or bring his professional career to an end.
Barcelona are also unlikely to have a strong reason to pursue the French forward. The club has already strengthened its attack with the arrival of Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal, giving the squad another experienced option alongside its existing forwards. With Barcelona reportedly satisfied with their current squad composition, signing Benzema would not appear to be a priority, especially given his age and uncertainty over how long he intends to continue playing at the highest level.
Benzema’s next decision will therefore be closely watched, but a move to Barcelona or another European club is increasingly unlikely. His two most realistic options appear to be retirement or remaining in the Middle East for another chapter of his career. After a trophy-filled spell at Real Madrid and several seasons in Saudi Arabia, the French striker now faces a major decision that could determine whether he adds another chapter to his playing career or begins life away from professional football.
