Indonesia and Vietnam are both dealing with injury concerns as they prepare for the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026. Several key players remain in the recovery process, creating uncertainty over the strength of both squads ahead of the tournament. The Garuda squad, in particular, could enter the competition without a number of important names.
Indonesia have yet to welcome Adrian Wibowo, Miliano Jonathans, and Mees Hilgers into the squad as all three continue their rehabilitation. Another concern surrounds Jay Idzes, who suffered an issue during Sassuolo’s match against Juventus on September 14, 2026. The 26-year-old defender started the game but was forced to leave the field in the 81st minute, with his latest condition still unclear.
Vietnam are facing similar problems, with several players also struggling to reach full fitness. Nguyen Hoang Duc is reportedly dealing with a muscle injury and could be sidelined for two to three weeks, while Nguyen Tai Loc has yet to return to training. Forward Nguyen Xuan Son was also absent from Nam Dinh’s latest match because of an injury, adding further concerns to Vietnam’s preparations.
The most serious setback for Vietnam involves Nguyen Van Vi, who suffered a muscle tear and has been ruled out of the tournament. Indonesia will compete in Group A alongside Malaysia, Singapore, and Bangladesh, while Vietnam are placed in Group B with Thailand, the Philippines, and Pakistan. The FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 is scheduled for September 24 to October 5 in Indonesia, with matches taking place at SUGBK Jakarta and Stadion Si Jalak Harupat in Bandung.
