Barcelona have completed the signing of 16-year-old attacking prospect Dany Freire, with the highly rated youngster now set to continue his development within the club’s youth system. The Portugal-Luxembourg dual national has completed his trial period in Catalonia and signed his contract, with only the remaining administrative formalities left to finalize the move.

Born in Lisbon on September 19, 2010, Freire moved to Luxembourg at a young age and developed his footballing abilities at Racing FC Union Letzebuerg. He has represented both countries at youth level, including appearances for Portugal’s age-group teams, while his background has allowed him to develop in two different football environments.

Barcelona had been monitoring Freire since his time with Racing Union, where his performances in youth competitions began to attract attention from clubs abroad. His displays in the UEFA Youth League and domestic cup competitions eventually led to an invitation to join Barcelona’s summer training camp, giving the club an opportunity to assess his potential more closely.

Freire’s versatility has been one of the main factors behind Barcelona’s interest, as he can operate as an attacking midfielder, left winger or central striker. His trial with Juvenil B further strengthened the club’s belief in his potential after he scored on his debut against CF Badalona during pre-season and continued to impress throughout the summer tournament.
