Manchester United are reportedly considering Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta as a potential replacement for Joshua Zirkzee. Football director Jason Wilcox is said to be particularly interested in the France international as the club prepares to reassess its attacking options ahead of the January 2027 transfer window.

Zirkzee's future at Old Trafford remains uncertain after United failed to complete his departure during the summer transfer window. Juventus had shown interest, while Everton also explored a late move, but there was not enough time to finalise a deal and find a suitable replacement. United could now revisit the possibility of selling the Dutch forward in January.

Mateta has emerged as a possible solution, with his Premier League experience viewed as a major advantage. The 29-year-old has scored 62 goals in 203 appearances for Crystal Palace and is reportedly open to a move to Old Trafford. His contract situation could also make January an important period for Palace if they want to receive a transfer fee before his current deal reaches its final stage.

United's interest is also liked to the club's desire to provide additional experience in attack alongside Benjamin Sesko. Although there are no plans to sell the Slovenian striker, his injury problems have increased the need for another senior forward. Mateta's potential arrival could therefore strengthen United's attacking depth, while Palace's interest in players seeking a move away from Old Trafford could potentially contribute to negotiations.
