Italy and Türkiye will meet in Bologna on Monday as both sides look to revive their UEFA Nations League campaigns after disappointing results against the leading teams in League A Group 1. Italy currently sit third with four points, three behind France and two behind Belgium, making victory particularly important with difficult matches against France and Belgium still to come. Under Roberto Mancini, Italy have shown signs of improvement, especially in their impressive 4-1 victory over Türkiye, before earning a valuable 1-1 draw against France in Paris. Türkiye face a much more difficult situation after losing all three of their Nations League matches so far. Their campaign began with a defeat to France before a heavy loss against Italy was followed by another 3-0 setback against Belgium. The latest defeat was Türkiye’s fifth loss in six matches and has placed Vincenzo Montella’s side at serious risk of relegation from League A. Italy have also enjoyed the better recent record between the teams, winning three of their last four meetings, including a 3-0 victory during their successful Euro 2020 campaign.

Drawing on my analysis of their past head-to-head records, the two sides have regularly produced high-scoring encounters when they face off. Turkey have been in mediocre form overall, with their away performances in particular falling well below expected standards. Italy, by sharp contrast, have hit an incredible run of form lately, notching up multiple consecutive wins while showing huge progress across their recent displays. They are fully determined to take all three points from this fixture, and their far more consistent recent output makes them the clear favourite to come out on top in this direct clash. Recent form has laid bare the clear defensive frailties of Turkey in this Nations League fixture. While the two sides do not hold a massive gap in overall quality on paper, Turkey have picked up only one win across their last four outings, with their last match a particularly underwhelming showing that extended their run of unsatisfactory recent performances. Their attack has been

Group standings have Italy occupying the third spot with 4 points, earned across 1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss. Their hard-fought away draw against France in the last match fully showcased the side’s remarkable tenacity. Turkey, on the other hand, sit rock bottom of the group with zero points from three straight defeats. Their defense has been plagued by constant gaps and unforced errors, with a clear imbalance between attacking and defensive performances, leaving the side under enormous pressure to pick up points to avoid the worst possible group finish. Italy’s squad has received a key boost recently: Barella is fully rested and expected to return to the starting XI, which will greatly lift the team’s midfield control. Their only shortcoming comes in forward rotation, as Kean is sidelined with physical discomfort, meaning Scamacca will almost certainly start in his place. Turkey’s biggest troubles are concentrated in their midfield and attacking lines. Guler and Yilmaz are serving

Italy's defensive system has stayed remarkably solid of late, with experienced backline players offering timely cover and coordinated support, keeping conceded goals at an impressively low level across their last 5 fixtures. The whole squad prioritizes strict tactical discipline, with clear divisions of labor between zonal defense and high pressing, maintaining a compact shape throughout matches. Their midfield boasts outstanding interception ability and wide coverage, which effectively disrupts the opponents' passing lanes. On the attacking end, they combine wide runs with late midfield surges, while the focal point striker holds up the ball reliably to create space for teammates. The side exercises excellent control over game tempo, never rushing their attacks, and patiently builds up possession to hunt for openings, fully embodying the classic Italian style of solid defending paired with sharp counter-attacks. Turkey, playing away in this fixture, are set to adopt a high pressing sc

    • France will host Belgium at the Stade de France in a crucial UEFA Nations League meeting, with Zinedine Zidane aiming to secure his first home victory since taking charge of Les Bleus. France remain unbeaten under their new manager, but their opening three matches have produced mixed results, including narrow wins over Türkiye and Belgium before a 1-1 draw with Italy. The result against Italy ended France’s four-match winning run in competitive home fixtures and left them only one point ahead of Belgium, increasing the importance of Monday’s encounter. Belgium arrive with renewed confidence after a convincing 3-0 victory over Türkiye, a result that kept their hopes of moving above France in League A Group 1 alive. Mark van Bommel’s side have also shown defensive resilience by keeping clean sheets against Italy and Türkiye, although they will need to overcome a difficult recent record against France. Les Bleus have won their last six meetings with Belgium, including a 1-0 victo
