The two sides hold vastly different priorities heading into this EFL Trophy group stage tie. Hosted at Keepmoat Stadium, this fixture sees 21st-placed EFL League One side Doncaster Rovers take on Liverpool's U21 youth team. This tournament applies a special rule that any draw after 90 minutes of regular play goes directly to a penalty shootout, with the shootout winner claiming one extra point on top of the single point for the regulation draw. Doncaster, as a senior professional side, are set to rotate their squad and start mostly fringe first-team players for this game, while Liverpool's U21 side will focus entirely on giving their young prospects valuable high-level match experience. Given the clear gap in physical strength and competitive experience even between Doncaster's backup players and the teenage Liverpool squad, the visiting youth side will find it very difficult to get past their hosts in this clash.

    • This EFL Trophy group stage fixture at Weston Homes Stadium sees 23rd-ranked League One side Peterborough United host Ipswich Town U21. I back the home side to get over this hurdle smoothly in normal time. The competition’s special rule states that matches ending in a draw after 90 minutes go directly to a penalty shootout, with the shootout victor awarded one extra bonus point. Given that Peterborough’s top priority is protecting their key first-team players for their ongoing league campaign, the side is highly expected to make widespread rotational changes for this low-stakes cup tie.

    • The Hillsborough Stadium plays host to this EFL Trophy group stage clash, where 4th-ranked League One side Sheffield Wednesday takes on Sunderland's U21 youth squad. From my observation, this tournament follows a unique group stage rule: any tie after 90 minutes of regular play goes directly to a penalty shootout, with the shootout winner earning one extra point. Most senior participating teams choose to rotate a number of their first-team regulars for this competition, while U21 sides prioritize giving their young players valuable high-level match experience to support their growth. I find it highly unlikely that the young visiting side will manage to get past this far more seasoned, physically robust League One opponent in this fixture.

    • Group B1 standings have Switzerland perched at the top with a perfect 9 points from three consecutive wins. One more victory in this upcoming fixture will almost lock in their group first place, booking their spot to compete for promotion. North Macedonia, by contrast, have dropped all three of their opening matches without scoring a single goal across those outings. Stuck deep in the relegation zone, they are further hit by a depleted squad for this away trip, leaving them with extremely slim chances of earning any points here. The first leg between the two sides already saw Switzerland walk away with a dominant 3-0 away win, a result that clearly reflects the huge disparity in overall strength and current form between the two teams. A string of key absences have hit Switzerland's squad ahead of this tie: captain Granit Xhaka has pulled out of the training camp, Breel Embolo is suspended, while Denis Zakaria and Ruben Vargas are sidelined through injury.
