Jadon Sancho could be preparing for a new chapter in his football career after Spanish club Getafe reportedly made an official offer to sign the former Manchester United winger on a free transfer. The 26-year-old has been without a club since his contract with United expired at the end of last season. A move to LaLiga could give him the opportunity to rebuild his career and regain the form that once made him one of Europe’s most promising attacking talents.

According to reports from Spain and Germany, Getafe submitted their first formal proposal to Sancho’s representatives on Thursday, October 15. The English winger is believed to be interested in playing outside his home country, although he has not ruled out other possibilities. His potential arrival would give Getafe another attacking option as the club looks to strengthen its squad and compete more effectively in Spain’s top division.

Sancho joined Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for a reported £73 million fee. However, he struggled to establish himself consistently at Old Trafford and subsequently spent time on loan at Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa. During his latest loan spell at Aston Villa, he made 39 appearances and experienced success in European competition, but United ultimately decided not to extend his contract, leaving him free to pursue a new club.

Getafe reportedly believe Sancho could follow a path similar to Mason Greenwood, another former Manchester United player who revived his career in Spanish football. Greenwood joined Getafe on loan in 2023 and delivered impressive performances before moving to Marseille in 2024. The Madrid-based club will hope Sancho can enjoy a comparable resurgence and bring creativity, pace and attacking quality to Jose Bordalas’ team.

Although Sancho is estimated to be worth around €10 million, Getafe would not need to pay a transfer fee because he is currently unattached. His salary requirements, however, could prove to be the biggest obstacle, particularly given LaLiga’s financial regulations and the club’s wage structure. Getafe will need to find an agreement that satisfies both parties if the deal is to proceed. The club has already added former Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal on a free transfer in October, and securing Sancho would represent another significant move in its efforts to strengthen the squad.
