Sampdoria have dismissed head coach Bernardo Corradi following a disappointing start to their Serie B campaign, with Marco Giampaolo emerging as the leading candidate to take charge. The decision reflects the growing pressure on the Genoa-based club as they struggle to find consistency and climb away from the bottom of the standings. With results falling short of expectations, the club has moved quickly in an effort to turn its season around.

The final blow came with a 2-1 home defeat against Arezzo, leaving Sampdoria with five losses from their opening seven league matches. The Blucerchiati have collected just four points, placing them at the bottom of the table alongside Catanzaro. The latest setback sparked strong frustration among supporters, whose loud jeers at the final whistle highlighted the mounting dissatisfaction with the team’s performances.

Sampdoria officially confirmed Corradi’s departure, expressing appreciation for his commitment during his time at the club. The coaching changes also affected assistant coach Massimo Mutarelli and technical collaborator Stefano Fiore, both of whom were thanked for their contributions. The club indicated that details regarding the appointment of a new head coach and the accompanying staff would be announced shortly.

Giampaolo has quickly become the leading name lined with the vacant position, potentially setting the stage for his third spell in charge of Sampdoria. He previously managed the club in Serie A from 2016 to 2019 before returning for another stint between January and October 2022. His familiarity with the club and previous experience in Italian football could make him a strong candidate as Sampdoria seek greater stability and improved results.

Giampaolo most recently coached Cremonese, taking over from Davide Nicola, who has since moved to Venezia. A return to Sampdoria would give him another opportunity to rebuild a team currently struggling for form and confidence. Although the appointment has yet to be officially confirmed, expectations are growing that the experienced coach could soon return to the touchline in Genoa, with the immediate challenge being to revive Sampdoria’s campaign and lift the club away from the relegation zone.
