Newcastle United Given Hope of Signing Ivan Toney as Al-Ahli Striker Considers Premier League Return

    0 0

Newcastle United have received a major boost in their pursuit of Al-Ahli striker Ivan Toney, with the England international reportedly open to returning to the Premier League in January. The 30-year-old is believed to be interested in reuniting with Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle, who previously worked with him during their time together in Saudi Arabia.

Toney enjoyed an outstanding spell under Jaissle at Al-Ahli after joining the Saudi Pro League side from Brentford in August 2024. During their time together, the striker scored 72 goals and provided 17 assists in 93 appearances across all competitions. His overall record for the Saudi club has reached 86 goals, including an impressive 14 goals and two assists during the 2026/27 campaign.

Newcastle's interest comes as the club look to address their lack of attacking productivity. Several of their current forwards have struggled to make a consistent impact this season. Summer signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo has yet to register a goal or an assist, while Yoane Wissa and William Osula have managed just one domestic goal each. Bringing in an experienced goalscorer like Toney could offer a significant improvement to their attacking options.

However, securing his signature will not be straightforward. According to reports from 365 Scores, Al-Ahli have yet to receive an official offer from Newcastle and are not planning to sell the striker during the January transfer window. Toney remains under contract until the summer of 2028 and is currently valued at approximately €20 million, giving the Saudi club a strong negotiating position.

Despite Al-Ahli's reluctance to part ways with their leading forward, Toney is reportedly open to a return to England and another opportunity to work with Jaissle. Any potential move, however, would need to satisfy both his sporting ambitions and financial expectations. Newcastle could therefore have an opportunity to pursue the deal in January or wait until the summer, depending on how negotiations develop.
