Indonesian national team forward Mitchell Baker has set his sights on playing in the English Premier League and representing Indonesia at the FIFA World Cup. At just 19 years old, the Melbourne-born striker understands that achieving these ambitions will require patience, dedication, and continuous improvement. Rather than rushing into professional football, he is focused on building a strong foundation for his future career.
Despite being selected by Colorado Rapids with the 10th overall pick in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft in December 2025, Baker has chosen to remain with Georgetown Hoyas while completing his undergraduate degree at Georgetown University. He aims to graduate within two and a half years, with December 2026 as his target. Once his studies are completed, he plans to begin his professional career in January 2027, potentially joining Colorado Rapids to compete in Major League Soccer.
For Baker, securing a professional contract is only the beginning. His main priority is finding a club where he can earn regular playing time, gain valuable experience, and develop into a stronger centre-forward. Having played as a striker for approximately four and a half years, he believes there is still significant room for improvement. His experience at Georgetown and with Indonesia's national team has helped shape his development and prepare him for the challenges of professional football.
Baker is particularly excited about the prospect of training full-time in a professional environment. Working with specialist coaches, following more intensive training programmes, and facing experienced defenders regularly are among the opportunities he believes will accelerate his progress. He is determined to choose the right club rather than simply accepting the first professional opportunity available, as his long-term ambition is to establish himself as a consistent and effective forward before pursuing a move to the Premier League.
Beyond club football, Baker has equally ambitious goals with Indonesia. He hopes to help the Garuda squad qualify for the 2030 FIFA World Cup and eventually represent the country at the Olympic Games. His potential involvement with Indonesia's Under-20 team could also provide an opportunity to pursue qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics through the relevant youth competitions. These international ambitions remain a major source of motivation as Baker prepares for the next chapter of his football journey.
