FIFA Reduces Nahuel Molina’s Ban Following 2026 World Cup Final Incident

Nahuel Molina, the AS Roma right-back, has received a significant boost after FIFA agreed to reduce his international suspension following an appeal by the Argentine Football Association (AFA). The decision relates to the post-match disturbance that occurred after the 2026 World Cup final, which resulted in disciplinary action against several Argentine players.

Molina was initially handed a seven-match international ban and a $77,000 fine for his involvement in the incident. His teammate Leandro Paredes faced an even tougher punishment, receiving a 10-match suspension and a $90,000 fine. Following the appeal, FIFA reduced Molina’s ban to four matches and lowered his fine to $60,000, while Paredes’ original punishment remained unchanged.

The Roma defender has already served three matches of his revised suspension. During his absence, Argentina secured friendly victories over Bolivia, Burkina Faso, and Benin in October. Despite being close to completing his suspension, Molina was not included in Argentina’s squad for the upcoming November friendlies against Uruguay and Costa Rica.

Several other Serie A players have earned places in the latest Argentina squad. Molina’s Roma teammates Leonardo Balerdi, Matias Soule, and Santiago Castro are among those selected. The squad also features Como players Nico Paz and Maxi Perrone, Parma defender Mariano Troilo, and Fiorentina youngster Franco Mastantuono, highlighting the continued presence of Italian-based talent in the national team.

With only one match remaining on his revised suspension, Molina is approaching his return to international football. His availability could provide Argentina with another defensive option for future fixtures, while the reduced punishment offers some relief following the controversy surrounding the World Cup final.
