Lazio are reportedly preparing a new long-term contract for Gustav Isaksen following the Danish winger’s impressive performances during the 2026/27 campaign. The Serie A club are keen to secure his future and reward his growing importance to the team. At 25, Isaksen has emerged as one of Lazio’s standout performers, prompting the club to make his contract renewal a priority.
Isaksen missed several matches at the beginning of the season while recovering from hernia surgery performed during the summer. However, he has since returned to full fitness and rediscovered his best form. His recent performances have been particularly impressive, with four goals in his last five Serie A appearances, including a spectacular finish in Lazio’s comeback victory over Cagliari last Sunday.
Reports from Italian newspapers Il Corriere dello Sport and Il Messaggero suggest that Lazio want to extend Isaksen’s current contract, which expires in June 2028, until 2031. The proposed agreement would also include a significant salary increase. His current annual earnings of €1.5 million could rise to €2.5 million, potentially placing him among the club’s highest-paid players and reflecting the growing confidence in his abilities.
Isaksen could also receive an additional responsibility in Lazio’s upcoming clash against Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. With regular captain Mattia Zaccagni sidelined by a muscle injury expected to keep him out for approximately a month, the Danish international is reportedly a strong candidate to wear the captain’s armband. Vice-captains Adam Marusic and Danilo Cataldi are also available, although both could begin the match on the bench.
Marusic is close to returning to the squad after recovering from a hamstring problem, while Cataldi has struggled to secure a regular starting position under Gennaro Gattuso, with Reda Belahyane currently preferred in the holding midfield role. This situation could open the door for Isaksen to lead Lazio onto the pitch. Since joining the club in the summer of 2023, he has made 131 appearances, and his recent progress suggests that he is becoming an increasingly influential figure in the Biancocelesti squad.
